Wellness Care

Your family’s best friend’s well-being is important to us. With our Wellness programs, we take essential steps toward assuring your pet’s overall health with measures such as biannual preventative check ups.

Wellness Care

Vaccinations for Dogs

  • DHPP: Prevents distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis), parainfluenza and parvovirus.
  • Leptospirosis: Keeps away Leptospirosis bacteria, which is a threat to cause disease in people.
  • Lyme: Helps to prevent Lyme disease. Our area has one of the worst rates of exposure, making this vaccination very important to consider.
  • Bordetella/Kennel Cough: We recommend this vaccination to be administered every 6 months. This disease is dangerously contagious and is a cause of upper respiratory disease and even pneumonia.
  • CIV/Canine Influenza Vaccine:   A severe respiratory infection.  Dogs that frequent dog parks, are kenneled or around other dogs are especially at risk.
  • Rabies: This vaccination is required by law. Rabies is almost always fatal in animals and humans.

Vaccinations For Cats

  • FVRCP: Protects against the herpes virus, calicivirus, and parvovirus (which can lead to respiratory and GI disease).
  • Feline Leukemia: Recommended for all cats that go outdoors and in some multi-cat households.
  • Rabies: Required by law. Rabies is nearly always fatal in animals and humans.

Heartworm Prevention For Cats And Dogs

Heartworms can cause lung and heart problems and can be life threatening to both cats and dogs, and are spread by mosquitos. We recommend year-round heartworm prevention via giving a monthly medication to both dogs and cats.

Wellness Testing For Pets

Intestinal Parasite Testing

Pets are susceptible to being infected by intestinal parasites, a source of disease in not only dogs and cats, but also in those who care for them. The four most common parasites affecting pets are hookworms, whipworms, roundworms, and tapeworms.

We are able to identify, treat, and prevent the parasites your pet may come in contact with by performing fecal testing for parasites twice per year. The monthly medication used for heartworm disease prevention also helps to prevent parasites.

Wellness Bloodwork

  • Bloodwork (including Thyroid, CBC, and Chemistry) is crucial for evaluating the state of your pet’s internal organs.
  • A complete blood count (CBC) delivers information to identify anemia, infection, abnormal blood cells, and blood-borne parasites.
  • A Chemistry Screen assesses several organs, including the kidneys and liver. With a Chem Screen, we evaluate electrolytes, blood proteins, and glucose to monitor for the onset of diabetes.
  • A Thyroid Screen gauges the probability of an underactive or overactive thyroid gland.
